Slideshow: minor remarks

Hi !

Slide title

One slide maybe should be named ‘Boosting for classification’ instead of ‘Boosting for regression’ ?

it is the third slide in Boosting for classification, and shows only square and circles. The following slide is also called ‘Boosting for regression’.

Phrasing in take home slide

In the last slide, last bullet point:

‘and furthermore and shallow trees predict faster’

maybe

‘and furthermore shallow trees predict faster’ ?

Good catch I think I actually introduced these problems very recently … They should now be fixed.

For more context, we are still modifying the slides and hopefully we will have time to have voice-over videos next week.

Hi,

I have some other minor remarks on the slides.

Comments from slide Boosting for classification:

  • “We could continue to refining our ensemble model.”
Maybe: “We can continue to refine our ensamble model”, instead?

Slide Take away:

  • “bagging and random forest independently fits deep trees”
I think it is: “bagging and random forest independently fit deep trees”

  • Gradient boosting and boosting are the same thing? If so, I think they should be named the same to avoid confusion.

Thanks a lot, I fixed these problems as well!

Generally speaking even if there is an already related topic, don’t hesitate to open a new topic. The advantage for us is that we can mark it as solved and more easily track what remains to be done.

As I mentioned above these slides are still being worked on, so maybe don’t spend too much of your time reviewing them . In particular fixing typos/grammar/etc … in the notes is not worth it I think because, well, there are more impactful things for you and us to do .

For more details, as far as I know, gradient boosting decision trees is a variant of gradient boosting which itself is a variant of boosting. Probably, that means we need to think about how to simplify these slides …

Okii. Understood!
